The Challenge
Refrigerant emissions account for an estimated 3–4% of global greenhouse gas emissions—already exceeding the climate impact of cement (3%), aviation (1.9%), and shipping (1.7%), and representing roughly half of total commercial building emissions (6.6%).
As demand for cooling accelerates this century, refrigerants will grow in climate significance even as grids decarbonize and transportation electrifies. Across commercial real estate, data centers, and sector-spanning portfolios, they remain a material and under-addressed emissions source.
Beyond is partnering with êffecterra to unlock investment in Scope 3 refrigerant decarbonization—helping companies identify where refrigerant emissions represent material climate risk and high-impact opportunity, addressable through ownership strategies, procurement, supplier engagement, and value chain collaboration.
Our initial Request for Information has now closed. The information gathered will be used to validate feasibility, scope, and success metrics for a subsequent Request for Proposals (RFP).
The RFP will be developed in consultation with Beyond members, with the submissions process managed by êffecterra.
More information forthcoming Summer 2026.
